Pancho (ぱんちょう)| Buta don (Pork Bowl) Restaurant | Obihiro

Beef bowls (牛丼) are very popular Japanese dishes at home and abroad, but have you ever heard buta-don (pork bowls)?

Buta-don is a local dish in Obihiro area and very popular in Hokkaido. A founder of  "Pancho", Mr. Abe, created this pork dish in the mid-20th century, when Japanese people hardly ever ate pork, and he wanted ordinal people to eat pork dishes more often.

Let's enter this most historical buta-don restaurant, "Pancho"!

It is always packed with customers like this↓ Moreover, there is a long line in front the restaurant during lunch hours, but I really recommend this buta-don here! It's veeeeeeeeeeeery delicious!!!

They serve buta-don and miso soup only. I ordered "ume", the second biggest portion in the restaurant, and miso soup with nameko mushrooms this time.

~Just for reference~
*Menu*
Duta-don
■Matsu---small portion
■Take---normal portion
■Ume---the second biggest portion
■Hana---the biggest portion
*Notice* "Hana" is very BIG! Be careful when you order it!

First, they served green tea and takuwan (pickled daikon radish)↓

Voila!
This is buta-don and miso soup! Let's open the lid!

Look very delicious, don't they? Sliced pork is char-grilled and seasoned with soy sauce-flavored sauce.

Depending on the restaurants, the topping is different such as green peas and thinly-sliced naganegi onion.

The pork is produced in this area and very juicy!!! Yummy x 2!!!

Well, well, well,
for pork lovers in the world!
To tell the truth, I have ordered "hana"--the biggest portion-- in the restaurant before....... I'm sure you must be surprised at the EXTRA-LARGE portion!

Are you ready???

This is "hana"!↓
Wow! Wow! Wow! The lid does NOT work as a lid!

Actually, seven pieces of pork steak are on the rice bowl! We were so impressed with this volume!!!

Butadon is so popular in Obihiro that there are a lot of butadon restaurants in and around this city. I really recommend you to visit several different restaurants and compare with each butadon!

Hi KK,

Do Pancho do take-away? And it is bad manners to eat on JR trains?

You can take out pork bowls from Pancho! Please enjoy it on the train. The Japanese custom is very funny. It is NOT bad manners to eat food on the "express" trains, while it is bad manners to eat it on the "local" train. Hahaha!
